Mirepoix (30 km), a town of 3,000 inhabitants, is located midway between Carcassonne and Foix. This is in the tenth century that we quote its name for the first time. During the crusade against the Albigenses in 1209, Simon de Montfort took the castle to the family of Mirepoix, closely linked to Catharism. See Cathedral of St. Maurice, the square surrounded by covered, half-timbered houses supported by carved beams heads.

The Church of Vals (43 km) is a semi-rock church: its lower part is built into the rock. Some think it was the ancient place of worship (perhaps going back to 2000 BC), but without any real evidence. What we are sure about, is that a village took place on this place from the ninth century BC (ceramic shards dating davant the early Iron Age). Some objects of Gallo-Roman and Merovingian are present, confirming the continuity of occupation. The foundations of the church date back at least the tenth century.

Camon (33 km) is a fortified village, living at the foot of his abbey founded in the 10th century. The door of the Horloge provides access to the streets of the village and former convent buildings, restored in the 16th century by Philip Levis, bishop of Mirepoix and Prior of Camon. We can discover the old abbey still rich of treasures, the remnants of the former cloister, chapel decorated with frescoes of the 14th century. Camon is also distinguished by its exceptional collection of over 100 dry stone huts, scattered in the hills. The love of his people for roses earned him the nickname "Village of a Hundred Roses" : each year in mid-May, gardeners profesionals and amateurs meet to the traditional Rose Festival
